A new computer system is being set up to certify that goods are free of pests and diseases, in order to shorten the long journey of cocoa beans from plantations in Côte d'Ivoire to European chocolate factories.

The new system greatly reduces the time and cost of exporting cocoa, which supports a fifth of the West African country's 28 million inhabitants. This system has been adopted by 123 countries, including the 27 members of the European Union. The system is currently being tested on cocoa and coffee exports in the port of Abidjan and in that of San-Pédro, which serves the south of the country, the main region for the cultivation of Ivorian cocoa, as well as neighboring countries with no maritime outlet
