Government spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly indicated that the national traceability system for coffee and cocoa was established by a decree adopted by the Council of Ministers.
The national traceability system for coffee-cocoa is designed around a computer system for recording commercial transactions and a bag labeling system to identify the producer and the area of origin of the products, in order to reconstruct the journey of coffee and cocoa products, from their production area to the area of production to the end customer. According to the Ivorian government, this system will allow producers to determine the origin of coffee and cocoa products at each level of the marketing chain, to ensure compliance with the minimum guaranteed on-the-field purchase price for producers, to secure financial transactions in the coffee-cocoa sector and to preserve the quality of products by promoting compliance with minimum sustainability
standards.
