On Monday, September 18, the government of Côte d'Ivoire announced the provisional suspension of the export of local rice and sugar. This is for the rest of 2023.

On the Ivorian market, rice and sugar prices have been subject to strong tensions in recent days. To avoid this price surge, the country's government has put in place measures to protect the purchasing power of populations. These measures took effect from September 18 to December 31, 2023. The provisional suspension of the export of local rice and sugar is intended to combat the high cost of living and to ensure regular supplies to the national market. The measures come a week after the Ivorian authorities decided to put a cap on the prices of rice, sugar and other consumer products, due to a surge in

prices.
