The National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD) has published data on the evolution of commodity prices in June 2023.

The international commodity market was marked by a monthly contraction in the prices of sugar (-3.9%), wheat (-3.2%) and crude oil (-1.1%) in June 2023. Prices of cotton (+3.7%), rice (+3.1%) and maize (+1.4%) rose over the same period. In the latest issue of its report entitled “Statistical Benchmarks”, ANSD notes that year-on-year, prices of cotton (-40.0%), crude oil (-38.7%), wheat (-24.6%) and maize (-18.9%) fell. The report also indicates that sugar (+31.4%) and rice (+6.2%) increased compared to the same month of the previous year. The average price of a barrel of crude oil fell by 25.2% from its level in the same period of 2022, during the first half of 2023
