The British pound was losing ground against the dollar on Friday, weighed down by the Bank of England's decision to pause its rate hike cycle, while the yen suffered from the Bank of Japan's still ultra-accommodative monetary policy. The British currency lost 0.49% against the greenback, at 1.2237 dollars per pound, and fell by 0.25% against the euro to 86.91 pence per euro, around 09:25 GMT. According to James Harte, an analyst at Tickmill, “the pound continued to trade lower on Friday following the latest interest rate decision by the BoE
.”For its part, the yen fell 0.45% against the greenback, to 148.26 yen per dollar. The day before, the Japanese currency hit a new low against the dollar since the beginning of November, at 148.46 yen
.The Australian dollar rose 0.4% to 95.08 yen after falling 0.9% overnight and reaching a one-week low of 94.5 yen. Kiwis rose 0.3 percent to 87.8 yen, after falling 0.5 percent last night to 87.21 yen. Against the greenback, the Australian dollar recovered from an earlier fall and ended the day at $0.6422. The New Zealand dollar was little changed at $0.5934. Both currencies have moved within a narrow range since reaching their lowest level in 10 months at the beginning of September.
