African and global institutions, the German, French, and Japanese governments, and philanthropic organizations, have pledged over $175 million to the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa (AGIA). The promise was made at COP 28.

The commitment of African personalities, organizations and institutions will contribute to the rapid increase in funding for transformative climate-aligned infrastructure projects across the continent. It will also allow AGIA to advance towards its first closing of $500 million in mixed capital for the preparation and development of projects at an early stage. In reality, AGIA is a partnership between the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank, Africa50 and other partners with a vision to unlock up to $10 billion in private capital for green infrastructure projects and to galvanize global action to accelerate Africa's just and equitable transition to

net zero.
