In Côte d'Ivoire, the Rice Promotion Program is valued at 15.7 billion CFA francs ($26 million) for fiscal year 2024. This envelope represents 5% of the budget allocated by the executive to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, which amounts to 311.1 billion FCFA (511 million

$).

For the implementation of the Rice Promotion Programme, priority actions concern improving smallholders' access to quality seeds, developing rice areas and improving the processing level of paddy rice. While milled rice production in the country is expected to reach 1.4 million tons in 2023, the executive is called upon to increase this volume to more than 2.6 million tons to reach its self-sufficiency target set for 2025

Currently, Côte d'Ivoire imports more than half of its milled rice consumption needs mainly from India, Vietnam, Pakistan and Thailand. In 2022, the bill for cereal purchases on the international market totaled more than $800 million, according to data compiled on the Trade Map platform
