Judicial sources have announced that a former minister and several executives of Mali's national energy company have been indicted and put under arrest warrant by the Supreme Court for “harming public property” in a case of alleged embezzlement.

Thirteen people were indicted and placed under arrest warrant overnight from Monday to Tuesday by the Supreme Court for forgery, use of forgery, damage to public property, in particular in a case involving the purchase of generators to supply electricity. The company EDM-SA is drowning under the weight of a debt of more than 200 billion CFA francs (about 300 million euros) and is no longer able to ensure electricity coverage in the capital and other Malian localities.
