The funding will enable the implementation of the project aimed at strengthening climate and community resilience in the Senegal River Valley (Mauritania and Senegal).
The Senegal River Valley Development and Resilience Project (Pdrvfs) will respond, in part, to the concern of the Minister of Finance and Budget Mamadou Mamadou Moustapha Ba. Which is to fight against the effects of climate change to allow the region to realize its potential. According to the minister, who spoke at a regional forum last January, development ambitions for the Senegal River Valley could only be achieved “by controlling the repercussions of climate change, the effects of which have begun to disrupt the economy around the
river”.For this reason, the project aims to improve access to infrastructure and services that are inclusive at the regional level and resilient to the effects of climate change in targeted border communities. Although they house most of the irrigated land in Mauritania (90%) and Senegal (80%), communities living on both sides of the river remain poor and vulnerable. It is in this context that the Board of Directors of the World Bank style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style”, "serif"> approved a financing of 195 million dollars (about 118 billion CFA francs
