German authorities announced last Saturday that the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the main opposition party in Germany, was the victim of a major cyberattack and suspended part of its IT infrastructure as a precaution.

In a statement, the German Ministry of the Interior announced that “the CDU network has been the victim of a serious cyberattack.” He said security authorities were working hard to repel the attack, investigate the attack and prevent further damage. This new attack came after the European Criminal Police Agency (Europol) announced on Thursday that four arrests were made in Ukraine and Armenia as part of an internationally coordinated operation targeting malicious software. According to the ministry, security authorities had strengthened all measures to protect against digital and hybrid threats.
