Pour cause de la hausse des prix des produits alimentaires et du logement, l' inflation globale de l' UEMOA a atteint 3.7% last April, i.e. above the 3% threshold of the BCEAO target range.

In the Union zone, Niger, Burkina Faso and Benin posted the highest inflation rates in April 2024. According to the monthly bulletin des statistiques de la Banque centrale des Etats de l' Afrique de l' Ouest ( BCEAO), Niger recorded the highest inflation rate in the Union with 11%, followed by Burkina Faso 3.7% and Benin 3.1%. These countries are ahead of Guinea-Bissau and Mali, whose inflation rates were 2.9% and 0.9% respectively over the period under review. These trends take place in a context marked by tensions between Benin and Niger style="font-family: "Bookman Old Style”, "serif"> about the opening of borders on the Niger side as well as the economic sanctions imposed by ECOWAS on Burkina Faso, following the coup. An economic situation that disrupts trade and the supply of basic products, causing a shortage of certain products, especially food, as well as an increase in prices
