Around 63,000 Facebook accounts have been removed by Meta Platforms, which is making the announcement on Wednesday. These accounts attempted to engage in sexual financial extortions aimed primarily at adult men in the United States

.

In a statement, Meta said the deleted accounts also included a smaller coordinated network of around 2,500 accounts linked to a group of around 20 individuals. According to him, “they mainly targeted adult men in the United States and used fake accounts to mask their identity,” Meta said. In sexual extortion, or “sextortion,” people are threatened with posting compromising photos, real or fictional, if they don't pay
