The Honourable Gibbi Mballow, MP for the Upper Fulladou West constituency calls on the Gambian government to speed up the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

The deputy for Upper Fulladou West constituency said that the Minister of Justice is responsible for setting up a commission. According to him, this implementation is in progress. However, he says, “it should have been done a long time ago.” “We would have hoped that the anti-corruption commission would have already started its work due to the nature of the bill and the demand of the population,” he said.

The Honourable Mballow said in an interview that he noted that the government is committed to ending corruption, but “we want the establishment of the commission to move forward at a faster pace, that it has all the resources it needs to have all the resources it needs to ensure its effective functioning and that it provides the framework adequate legal framework to investigate and indict persons suspected of acts of corruption,” he said. He also emphasized the need to establish policy guidelines to fight corruption. According to him, “when this bill was presented to Parliament after having been examined by the plenary committee, in which I participated actively, I think that any serious government must have serious political guidelines to tackle corruption.”
