The Council of Ministers adopted a new draft ordinance aimed at strengthening the existing legal framework and better aligning Mali with international standards. This is an important step in the fight against financial criminal activities.

L'adoption du nouveau projet d' ordonnance fait suite aux évaluations réalisées par le Groupe Intergouvernemental d' Action Contre le Blanchiment d' Argent en Afrique de l' Ouest ( GIABA ) which have identified weaknesses in the systems to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism in Mali. This project will strengthen the role of the National Financial Information Processing Unit (CENTIF). It will thus see its missions strengthened, in particular in terms of risk assessment. Expansion of the scope of application. The new law now covers the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The provisions of the ordinance are in accordance with the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (GAFI ). Also, banks, payment institutions and other players in the financial sector will have to put in place reinforced vigilance measures.
