For the month of July 2024, the activities of African airlines grew by 7.4% year-on-year in the passenger traffic segment, according to the latest data from IATA (International Air Transport Association).

For IATA, this is one of the lowest growth rates by region, given the minimal proportion of Africa in global global traffic (2.1%). Apart from Africa, North America and the Middle East also performed poorly. They saw year-on-year increases of 5.3% and 5.8% in volumes respectively

.

Traffic growth was also modest in Europe, with an increase of 8.3% year-on-year, while Asia-Pacific and Latin America maintained the best performances of the period, recording respectively +19.1% and 15.7+% of passenger traffic.

For IATA, these increases in the airline industry over the period were driven by the end of the summer peak season.

“July was another positive month, despite significant disruptions caused by the CrowdStrike computer outage. The end of the Nordic summer peak season is a reminder of how much people depend on flying. But persistent supply chain bottlenecks have made it more difficult to deploy the capacity needed to meet travel needs. With much of the world coming back from vacation, there is an urgent need for manufacturers and suppliers to address their supply chain issues so that air travel remains accessible and affordable for everyone who depends on it. ”, said the Director General of IATA, Willie

Walsh.
