A national awareness-raising seminar was held on September 25 and 26, 2024 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, for actors in the private sector and organization of the business world. The meetings organized by the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) through its Information Center in Abidjan (CIA) focus on money laundering issues and the financing of terrorism.

At the opening of this seminar on Wednesday, Régina Bandé Tiens Bandé, manager of the Abidjan Information Center (CIA), indicated that “the fight against money laundering and terrorist financing is based on the 40 Recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), this independent intergovernmental body created in 1989 to develop and promote strategies to protect the global financial system from money laundering, the financing of terrorism and the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction”. According to her, “the challenges related to each AML/CFT stakeholder, according to her, are identified and accompanied by specific results, so that each can contribute to the symphony of clean, honest and prosperous financial systems. The performance of each AML/CFT system in each Member State is evaluated in terms of their effectiveness and technical compliance

.”

Elle a fait savoir aux acteurs du secteur privé qu' en “établissant une passerelle entre les Recommandations du GAFI et vous acteurs du private sector , I can note that you should be proud of your contributions to the economies of various countries around the world. That's because 37% of these 40 recommendations are dedicated to you. These are those ranging from 9 to 23, which are the guarantors of the measures to be implemented by financial institutions (FIs), designated non-financial Enterprises and Professions (EPNFD) and virtual asset service providers (PSAV

)”.
