In his commitment to the fight against tax evasion, the Transitional Prime Minister, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, on Monday received a delegation from the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), led by its Director General, Edwin W. Harris Jr. Indeed, this meeting was an opportunity for Niger to reaffirm its commitment to the fight against this financial scourge

Discussions focused on the third round of mutual evaluation of GIABA. Mr. Edwin W. Harris affirmed that Niger remains an active member of GIABA. The country has made progress in the fight against money laundering, although much remains to be done.

The CEO of GIABA also recalled that in the mutual evaluation report adopted in August 2021, Niger was placed under a strengthened monitoring regime due to certain shortcomings identified. To do this, Niger must now submit regular reports on the progress and progress made.

GIABA was created in 2000 by the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). It is responsible for strengthening the capacities of Member States in the prevention and fight against money laundering and terrorist financing in the region.
