The Malian Council of Ministers, during its session on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, approved a decree crucial for the future of mining in the country. On the recommendation of the Minister of Mines, the Government renewed the operating license granted to the Société d'Exploitation des Mines d'Or de Sadiola (SEMOS) for a further period of

10 years.

The granting of the mining permit comes after the signing in September of a new partnership agreement between the government and the Canadian company. Last month, Allied Gold said in a statement that the collaboration is now governed by the new Malian mining code. This includes a maximum stake of 30% for the government and the possibility for local investors to take up to 5% interest in Sadiola

.

“The government has initiated reforms in the mining sector that have led to a review of all mining conventions during the exploitation phase in order to better share the mining rent. This review also concerned Sadiola's operational practices [...] and their compliance with current financial transaction regulations,” said the Council of Ministers press release

.

With the Nampala gold mines owned by Robex Resources and Fekola by B2Gold, the government expects Sadiola to bring in 245 billion FCFA ($410 million) in additional annual revenue in Mali.
