The National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC) announced the arrest of six people accused of corruption in Garoua. This information was revealed during a press briefing given by the President of CONAC, Dr. Dieudonné Massi Gams, in the presence of Governor Jean Abate Edi'i.

The persons arrested were brought before the courts, following the denunciations received during the five-day campaign, called “Anti-Corruption Clinic”. The compilation of denunciations shows 43 files, which were immediately dealt with as part of the 5th edition of this campaign to fight corruption in the North region, reports Cameroon

Corruption is still wreaking havoc in Cameroon, according to the report on the state of the fight against corruption in 2023 presented by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC). According to CONAC, Cameroon suffered significant financial damage due to acts of corruption and similar offenses of more than 114 billion CFA francs in 2023

The amount was established on the basis of “the investigations conducted by CONAC, the decisions of the budgetary and financial disciplinary council and those issued by the special criminal court”, competent in matters of embezzlement of public funds, explained Dieudonné Massi Gams pre Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Commission

This sum, 114 billion 35 million and 922,502 CFA francs, is a very clear increase compared to the year 2022 when it was 4 billion 623 million 418,918 CFA, according to the report.
