On Monday, December 2, the commodity trader Trafigura and its former director of operations appeared before the Federal Criminal Court for acts of corruption abroad.

La société Trafigura, a first to appear before the Federal Criminal Court, is one of the world's main commodity traders and parent company of Belgian zinc company Nyrstar, would have paid 4.3 million euros to a senior official of the Angolan national oil company Sonangol, via a bank account in Geneva. The latter would also have received $604,000 in cash and benefited from Trafigura taking care of his hotel stay. The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (MPC) estimates that Trafigura made a profit of 143.7 million dollars thanks to these contracts. The trial is expected to last over three weeks.
