The document published by the BVG accuses the former Prime Minister, Choguel Maïga, for embezzlement estimated at nearly 200 million CFA francs. The latter will have to respond to these accusations before the courts and the Malian people. Among the facts of which he is accused is a dubious loan of more than 20 billion CFA francs (about 30 million euros), granted in April 2020 as part of the Covid-19 response plan. The irregularities identified by the BVG include, among others, 13 million FCFA (20,000 euros) spent on telephone subscriptions for staff; 92 million FCFA (140,000 euros) intended for ORTM, public television, but not paid; and 15 million FCFA (22,800 euros) in school equipment that could not be found. The BVG also denounces “unjustified” sovereignty expenses totaling 35 million FCFA (53,300 euros) for two official trips from Maïga to Konobougou and Dalala, which include a personal delegation whose expenses amount to more than 12 million FCFA
(18,300 euros).
