The net income after tax of the National Telecommunications Office (ONATEL) increased by 5.1% at the end of the first half of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019, announced the leaders of this telephone company based in Ouagadougou. in Burkina Faso.
This result increased from 13.884 billion FCFA on June 30, 2019 to 14.586 billion FCFA a year later, an increase of 702 million FCFA. As for the turnover of this company, it is also up by 2.1%, standing at 79.995 billion FCFA against 78.361 billion FCFA in the first half of 2019.

The operating result, for its part, increased by 9.2%, from 21.495 billion FCFA as of June 30, 2019 to 23.480 billion FCFA as of June 30, 2020. The upward trend is also perceptible in the results of activities with an achievement of 20.892 billion FCFA against 20.062 billion FCFA a year earlier (+4.1%).

As of June 30, 2020, ONATEL strengthened its mobile customer base by 11.3% to 8.930 million against 8.020 million as of June 30, 2019. As for the fixed base, it is down by 2.6%, standing at 74,562 customers against 76,576 customers in the first half of 2019.

At the level of the Internet base (fixed and mobile), a strong increase of 46.4% is noted with a customer base which stands at 4.042 million as of June 30, 2020 against 2.760 million a year earlier.

In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic with the health alert decreed by the Burkinabe authorities, ONATEL officials claim to have taken several actions to protect their employees and customers. "In this sense, ONATEL has mobilized the technical capacities at its disposal (internet bandwidth of 35 Gb, technical transmission capacities and mobilization of personnel) to meet the high demand for data and ensure the continuity of operation of its commercial agencies. and its call center,” they add.
