TotalEnergies said that plans to restart the project by the end of 2024 were abandoned after the outbreak of violence following the disputed presidential election in October, jeopardizing the goal of starting production in 2029. According to TotalEnergies, “the priority is to restore peace and security in Cabo Delgado and the lifting of force majeure.” According to the company, the resumption of “public services” and “normal life” is necessary for the project to restart.
