On Monday, February 3, the special prosecutor's office of the Court for the Suppression of Economic Offences and Terrorism (CRIET) requested a sentence of two years in prison, including one year in prison, against Raymond Adékambi, former director general of the Agency for the Execution of Public Interest Works (AGETIP-Bénin).

The former director general of the Agency for the Execution of Public Interest Works (AGETIP-Benin), is being sued for embezzlement, abuse of corporate assets and money laundering, in a case involving more than 1.6 billion CFA francs. According to the information, the facts date back to the execution of a project financed by the West African Development BOAD Bank () and the ECOWAS Investment and Development Bank (BIDC), which had respectively allocated 900 million and 700 million CFA francs for industrial works Public loan

These amounts were never allocated to the projects concerned according to the prosecution. During the hearing, the special prosecutor also requested a fine of 500,000 CFA francs for each defendant, the seizure of Raymond Adékambi's shares within AGETIP-Benin, as well as the partial return of the embezzled funds in the amount of 900 million and 600 million CFA francs. The verdict in this much-watched case is expected on 24 March.
