A round table was held in Abidjan on Friday, February 14. This meeting, which marks a key stage for the development of thematic bonds (green, social and sustainable) in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), was organized by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Regional Stock Exchange (BRVM).

The round table between BRVM and GGGI allowed participants to identify gaps in the regulatory, economic and institutional preparation of the UEMOA; to develop an action plan to strengthen the capacities of market players through training, technical assistance and platforms for sharing information; to offer strategic recommendations to encourage issuers, attract investors and strengthen the role of financial intermediaries; and to define a framework for collaboration involving market players, regulators and development partners to support the thematic bond market.

Three main themes structured the discussions. It is the assessment of the regulatory and economic framework. This stage allowed participants to identify existing gaps and propose solutions to align markets with international standards. The preparation of market players, this stage made it possible to analyze the needs for awareness, capacity building and appetite of investors and issuers. Then growth strategies. The discussions define concrete actions to expand the thematic bond market, improve its liquidity and strengthen public-private collaborations

This round table is in particular an opportunity to share the preliminary results of an analysis report conducted by the GGGI and the BRVM, thus offering a solid basis for concrete recommendations.
