Lev20 years parquet a requis le lundi 24 février 2025 une peine de in prison against former Mauritanian president Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz. The latter had been judged since November on appeal to Nouakchott,

accused of abuse of power.

L'ancien président Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz is accused of abusing his power in Mauritania in order to amass an immense fortune. He is appearing alongside a dozen senior officials and relatives, including two former prime ministers and two former ministers and directors of large corporations, for “illicit enrichment”, “abuse of office”, “abuse of office”, “influence peddling” or “money laundering”. The Attorney General of the Court of Appeal Sidi Mohamed Ould Di Ould Moulay accused the former head of state of having taken advantage of his position for personal interests. He has been in custody since the start of his first instance trial in January 2023 and has always denied the charges against him.
