Benin collected on Thursday, January 20, 2025, the sum of 21.999 billion CFA francs at the level of the UEMOA financial market following its simultaneous issuance of an auction of assimilable treasury bills (BAT) of duration 91 and comparable treasury bonds of 3, 5 and 7 years.

The operation, which was initially aimed at 20 billion FCFA, aroused strong interest from investors, with a coverage rate of 604%, or 120 billion FCFA. However, the Beninese Treasury rejected 82% of the submissions, selecting only those offers deemed consistent with its cost-controlled financing strategy

.

The titles offered were spread over four maturities: 91 days, 3 years, 5 years and 7 years. Most of the funds raised come from 5- and 7-year bonds, which are fully subscribed with returns of 6.97% and 7.29% respectively. On the other hand, 91-day Treasury bills were very poorly retained (2.91% of offers)

.

This issue comes two days after a more difficult auction for Côte d'Ivoire, which raised 147 billion CFA francs out of the 150 billion targeted, but at higher rates (7.45% over 5 years and 7.64% over 7 years).
