This increase could be explained by the extension of existing mining sites and the reopening of some old
mines. The second largest copper producer on the African continent, Zambia, estimates that its copper production should reach 1 million tons this year, compared to 820,676 tons in 2024, a senior government official announced on Friday. The Minister of Finance and Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane, attributed this expected progress to the expansion of existing mines, the reactivation of old mines, and the establishment of new mines
."Thereafter, production will increase year by year until reaching the target of three million tons,” he said in a statement.
According to the minister, a total of six billion dollars must be invested in the sector to ensure that the target of three million tons per year is achieved.
This growth in mining output is expected to generate more jobs, economic opportunities, foreign exchange earnings and government revenue, and as a result, an increase in living standards, he said.
