The Malian government has obtained the application of the new 2023 Mining Code on the future Bougouni lithium mine. The memorandum of understanding ratified on this occasion also provided for the payment to Bamako of $15 million in 2 equal installments. In a note published on Friday, April 4, 2024, Kodal indicated that it had asked Bamako for an extension of the deadline initially planned for this payment. In reality, the first payment of 7.5 million USD was supposed to be made just after the agreement, and the second before 31 March 2025. This deadline having passed, Kodal explains its request for an extension by a delay in the transfer of the mining license between its subsidiaries Future Minerals SARL and Les Mines de Lithium de Bougouni (LMLB). For now, the government has not yet responded to the request for an extension.
