In Mali, the inflation rate was 7.6% in January 2025, well above the Central Bank's target range of between 1% and 3%, after 4.9% in November and December 2024. The UEMOA Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (IHPC) report indicates that this increase in inflation is due to the increase in prices for “food products and soft drinks (8.2%), housing, water, electricity, electricity, gas and other fuels (11.4%), restaurant services and other fuels (11.4%), restaurant services and accommodation services (5.8%), personal care services, social protection and goods” (11.4%), various (12.5%) as well as services from information and communication (9.8%)”.
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Malian economy has been resilient in the face of various shocks that the country has experienced, including the maritime blockade of the Red Sea and the contraction of available financing in the region.
Within the UEMOA zone, Guinea-Bissau (5.8%) is the second country with the highest inflation rate while Benin recorded the lowest rate (0.1%).
