On April 17, the energy giant British Petroleum (bp) announced the successful loading of its very first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) since the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project.

With the announcement of the success of the first export of gas from Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA), which brings the two neighboring states into the history of gas exporting countries, hope returns to Mauritania and Senegal, hope returns to Mauritania and Senegal, after fears caused by the leak at one of the wells. GTA is located on the maritime border between Senegal and Mauritania. The operation officially marks the start of LNG exports for both countries, which thus join the narrow circle of gas-exporting nations.
This launch comes after the announcement, earlier this year, of the very first flow of gas extracted from the site. GTA also represents a major technological challenge, with offshore installations located 120 km offshore. It is classified as a project of strategic national importance by both states.
