Nigerian fintech startup Kredete has launched a credit card backed by stablecoins. This credit card is designed to allow Africans to store and spend digital dollars around the world. The product was designed in partnership with Visa, Stellar, and Rain.

The new credit card is directly linked to the user's digital wallet and pays for payments in USDC, with real-time currency conversion at the point of sale. It allows online and offline purchases in more than 100 countries using the Visa card format. The launch of the Kredete card marks a broader change in how stablecoins are integrated into everyday financial products for African users. While many countries on the continent face currency volatility, dollar-backed stablecoins like USDC offer a way to preserve value and simplify international payments. Cross-border financial inclusion remains a major challenge

.

It should be noted that the Nigerian fintech startup Kredete was founded in 2023 by Adeola Adedewe. It helps African immigrants in the United States build up credit through money transfers financed by stablecoins. Users can send funds to over 40 countries at low fees, with each transaction contributing to their credit profile in their new country. Stablecoins offer a cheaper alternative with faster settlement times
