President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially put indigenous electric vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles into service in Nasarawa State, marking an important step in Nigeria's transition to sustainable transport.

The Nasarawa State Government has partnered with an electric motor vehicle company (EMVC), in an effort to promote clean energy and sustainable transportation for its citizens.

The company launched its first charging station for electric vehicles in the state during President Bola Tinubu's visit to the state on Wednesday in Lafia.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Voice of Nigeria, EMVC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Prince Mustapha Audu said the collaboration would boost the transport system, generate clean energy, and reduce emissions.

He said that EMVC was one of the largest electric vehicle companies in Nigeria and that it had expanded into different states.

“This is the state's first electric vehicle charging station. We will install at least five at the beginning and then increase the number as the demand for electric vehicles increases. But it is clear that this is the future of transport,” he said

.

Prince Audu explained that the establishment of the charging station was also aimed at creating employment opportunities for the citizens of the state.

“As you can see, some of our engineers are from the state. Young people would have everything to gain from training in new technologies. “There will be a lot of technology and knowledge transfer for young people, especially about the repair and assembly of electric vehicles, as well as about these charging infrastructures,” he added.

The CEO of EMVC further said that President Bola Tinubu's renewed hope program on sustainable transportation had made the state governor a key part of CNG and electric vehicle projects.
