On the occasion of the visit to Rabat by the Ecuadorian Foreign Minister, Morocco and Ecuador took a new step in strengthening their bilateral relationships. The two countries agreed to establish a partnership in the political and economic fields. A long meeting took place between Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, and his Ecuadorian counterpart, Gabriela Sommerfeld.

Through a series of announcements and concrete initiatives, this meeting is part of a dynamic South-South strategic approach based on sovereignty, shared development and international solidarity. Ecuador's position on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara was clearly reaffirmed during the diplomatic visit. This position reinforces the growing legitimacy of the Moroccan proposal at the international level, echoing a dynamic supported by a majority of UN member states. According to Gabriela Sommerfeld, this embassy should serve as a “link to African markets” and bring Quito's economic and political ambitions to the continent. For his part, Nasser Bourita recalled that Morocco could soon open a diplomatic representation in Quito, thus sealing a reciprocity that illustrates the strategic importance given to this partnership. He also announced that Ecuadorian nationals will soon benefit from easier access to the Moroccan e-visa, a measure that will accompany the intensification of human and economic flows

The two countries are also committed to promoting joint initiatives in the areas of food security, technology, intelligence, counter-terrorism and drug trafficking, with a strong commitment to addressing the challenges of transnational crime.
