The Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Boudjemaâ, presented a substantial new bill to the National People's Assembly (APN) on Tuesday 15 July last year, a substantial new bill. This project aims to amend and complement existing legislation in the fight against illicit financial flows.

The new bill amends and complements Act No. 05-01 of February 2005 on the prevention and fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism. Through several of its innovative provisions, the text meets a double need. On the one hand, it is a question of rigorously aligning itself with Algeria's international obligations, in particular the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and on the other hand, of adapting the national legal framework to the worrying evolution of criminal techniques and to the emergence of new financial threats, in particular those related to money laundering. The aim of this text is to significantly strengthen the legal arsenal, by tightening sanctions.
