The Ghanaian government plans to release 4 million euros ($4.6 million), with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB), to relaunch the activities of the company PBC Shea Limited, a company specializing in the processing of shea nuts. The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 during the inauguration of the company's new board of directors.

Ghana is the 5th largest producer of shea nuts in the world after Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso and Benin. The country wishes to increase the creation of added value in the sector and focuses on strengthening the transformation capacities of the local industry. According to Eric Opoku, Minister of Agriculture, the 4 million euros will also be used to strengthen the capacities of local shea producers this year. This initiative aims in particular to guarantee the supply of sufficient quantities to the processing unit based in the Savannah region

.

At the moment, shea nuts in raw form account for nearly 75% of exports in the Ghanaian industry, compared to 18% for butter and 5% for shea oil, according to the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX).
