For the past few years in Senegal, the peanut industry has experienced a decline in performance in the export segment.

Peanuts are the second largest source of export earnings in the agricultural sector after fishery products in Senegal. According to data compiled by the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD) in its Foreign Trade Analysis Note published on Tuesday, July 22, the shipments of unroasted peanuts on the international market brought in 65.3 billion FCFA (about 114 million USD

), in the country.

The announced envelope fell by 1.7% compared to the 66.4 billion FCFA earned a year earlier, marking the third consecutive year of decline in export revenues generated by the sector since the peak of 154.7 FCFA recorded in 2021. This downward trend is mainly due to the fall in export volumes. According to ANSD data, the volumes of unroasted peanuts shipped increased from 336,000 tons in 2021 to only 121,798 t in 2024

, over the same period.
