The Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly has signed agreements for the construction of solar power plants with a total capacity of 210.3 megawatt peak (MWp). It marks a significant step forward towards a more sustainable energy mix. The objective is to significantly increase the share of renewable energies in the national electricity mix, in order to support fast-growing demand while respecting the country's international commitments in terms of sustainable development.
These projects, supported by national and international partners, are spread over several strategic areas of the country. These include a 50 MWp power plant in Bondoukou, supported by Amea Power as part of a BOOT (Build, Own, Operate and Transfer) partnership
.These new agreements are in line with the commitments made by Côte d'Ivoire to diversify its energy sources. They reinforce projects previously launched: the Bondoukou solar power plant (2023), as well as those in Ferkessédougou, Kong and Katiola,
initiated in 2024.
