The World Bank Group has just accepted the co-presidency of the Alliance for Mobilizing Access to the Digital Economy MADE- Africa (Mobilizing Access to the Digital Economy). It will be in collaboration with the African Development Bank group and Mastercard, which until now have been the sole co-chairs

.

The Alliance for Mobilizing Access to the Digital Economy is an initiative launched to facilitate digital access to essential services for some 100 million people and businesses in Africa by 2034. Through the MADE Alliance, Africa is part of the collective efforts of these three major institutions to accelerate digitization by expanding reliable and affordable access to high-speed connectivity and secure data, and to ensure that the various digital services work together seamlessly for the benefit of users. The World Bank Group will bring its expertise, data-based knowledge and experience to this initiative in support of sustainable digital transformation.

According to Sangbu Kim, Vice President for Digital at the World Bank, “the World Bank Group is committed to expanding inclusive digital access across Africa, and joining the MADE Alliance will support efforts to improve livelihoods, & agrave; empowering communities and stimulating economic growth across the continent

.”

For her part, Beth Dunford, Vice President for Agriculture and Human and Social Development at the African Development Bank, said that “two of the priority goals of the African Development Bank Group are “Feeding Africa” and “Improving quality”. ; of life of African populations”. The MADE: Africa Alliance brings us closer to achieving these goals by connecting smallholder farmers to digital services that allow them to increase their food production, improve their access to markets, finance and good agricultural practices, and therefore increase their incomes.”

Tara Nathan, founder and executive vice president of Community Pass, Mastercard believes that “this alliance brings together partners who are complementary in running programs that target the same regions and communities, allowing us to amplify our impact.”

The United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) also became a member of the MADE Alliance in April 2025.
