This decision was announced in early August by the Ministry of the Interior.
In a statement published in Abidjan, the CJA said it learned “with dismay” this measure, taken on 7 August, which it described as a “dangerous setback for democracy” and a “serious attack” on fundamental freedoms and the independence of the judicial system.
In addition, the CJA-UEMOA welcomes the position taken by the Niger Bar, which it describes as a “sentinel of the rule of law”, and affirms to join its denunciations. According to the Conference of Young Lawyers (CJA) of the UEMOA area, these ministerial orders “violate the international commitments” of the country and “undermine the bases of the separation of powers
