The outstanding balance of domestic claims of deposit institutions in Senegal increased by 456.40 billion FCFA (684.600 million euros) at the end of July 2020 compared to the same period of 2019, according to data from the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO).

The services of the issuing institution indicate that this outstanding amount increased from 5045.60 billion FCFA in July 2019 to 5502 billion FCFA a year later, an increase of 9% in relative value. This increase is mainly attributable to net claims on central government, which recorded a significant increase of 64%, from 683.40 billion FCFA in July 2019 to 1120.90 billion FCFA a year later.

Loans held by deposit institutions in other sectors of the economy contributed very marginally (+0.4%) to the increase in the overall outstanding balance of domestic claims, with a realization of 4381.10 billion FCFA against 4362.30 billion FCFA in July 2019.

Compared to the month of June 2020 when it amounted to 5438.10 billion FCFA, the outstanding balance of domestic claims of depository institutions is up slightly by 1.2%. This increase is caused by claims on central government (+16.6%) whereas those on the economy are down 2.1%.

As for non-monetary liabilities, they increased by 6.9% to 1,187 billion FCFA against 1,110 billion FCFA in July 2019. In monthly variation, these liabilities also increased by 6.1%.
