Burkina Faso, through its Directorate-General for the Treasury and Public Accounting, received on 21 October 2020 the sum of 22 billion FCFA (33 million euros) following  its issue by auction of 7-year maturity assimilable treasury bonds (OAT) on the financial market of the Union West African tin (WAMU).

The funds raised are intended to cover the financing needs of the Burkinabe State budget.  For the month of October 2020, the Burkinabe authorities' intentions to issue public securities amount to CFAF 45 billion as in September 2020.

The amount put out to auction by the issuer amounted to CFAF 20 billion. At the end of the operation, the issuer was offered by the investors a total amount of bids of 77.547 billion FCFA, i.e. a coverage rate of the amount put up for auction of 387.74%.

For cost reasons, Burkina Faso Burkinabe retained 22 billion CFA francs and rejected the remaining 55.547 billion CFA francs, i.e. an absorption rate of 28.37%.

The securities issued will be repaid on the first business day following the maturity date of October 22, 2027. As for the payment of interest, it will be made annually from the first year on the basis of an interest rate of 6.40%.
