With a level of 2.4% in November 2020, the annual average inflation rate in Côte d'Ivoire still remains below the community threshold of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) which is 3%, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
It should be noted, however, that this inflation rate has been rising steadily for at least six months. From 1.5% in May 2020, it fell from June to October of the same year to 1.6%, 1.8%, 2%, 2.1% and 2.3% respectively.

As for the month of November 2020, the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP), it recorded a drop of 0.3%, falling from 106.6 in October 2020 to 106.3 a month later. “This decline is attributable to both the Food and non-alcoholic beverage functions (-1.2%) and the Transport functions (-0.3%), explains the INS. The quarterly and annual variations of the overall index for the month of November 2020 are respectively +0.2% and +1.7%.



With regard to the decrease in the Food products and non-alcoholic beverages function, it follows the fall in the prices of products from the Tubers and plantain (-3.2%) and Fresh fruit or root vegetables (-10.7%) items. . Quarterly and annual variations are respectively -10.2% and +12.7% for Tubers and plantain. As for the Fresh fruit or root vegetables item, the quarterly and annual variations are -14.5% and -12.5%.

With regard to Transport, the INS notes that the decline in the index for this function is due to the fall in the prices of products from the Road passenger transport items (-0.8%). The quarterly and annual variations are respectively -0.6% and +3.6%.

As for the other functions, the INS notes that they experienced more or less stable variations around their indices.
