While collective management (also known as UCITS) began in Africa just over 20 years ago, today it is a well-established and growing market of around 700 management companies. In the area of the Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa (UEMOA) there are 22 as well as a hundred funds in activity. In December 2019, the net assets of UCITS in this zone increased from CFAF 578.5 billion (figures as at 31 December 2018) to CFAF 647.45 billion, an increase of 11.92%.

The democratization of these collective and diversified financial products has allowed individuals to access investment vehicles previously reserved for large groups and other private investors with high initial capital. UCITS are attractive because of their low risks linked, among other things, to the diversity of their portfolios and the bonds that make them up mainly. In December 2019 in the WAEMU, the net assets of UCITS consisted of 63.40% bonds, 16.47% cash, 14.48% shares, 3.28% money market investments, 2.38% UCITS units.

Funding data coverage that plans to expand to other regions

An expansion of collective management necessarily implies an increase in the demand for financial data on it in order to be able to be well informed and/or to inform its customers about their management actions. Since 2016, Euronext Funds360 has been proud of its partnership with ORISHAS FINANCE, based in Abidjan. Partnership that helped set up the first database on funds in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) region.

For Dr. Rilwane Badirou, Founder and CEO of ORISHAS FINANCE: "our goal is to make accessible to all local and international investors all funds in the West and Central Africa Francophone and Anglophone Zone in a single database, reliable and available to allow them to invest safely and transparently."

Jean-Baptiste Sicard, CEO of Euronext Funds360 said: "The coverage of the funds currently extends throughout the WAEMU area but we can extend it to other English-speaking African countries such as Nigeria, Ghana and Central Africa."
