The NGO Brainforest organized on April 2 in Libreville, a round table in order to mobilize technical and financial partners to support actions in the cocoa sector. This meeting is part of the "cocoa under shade" project, designed and implemented by the NGO.

With the “Cocoa under shade” project, Brainforest wants to reconcile economic growth and the fight against deforestation. Placed on the theme “The cocoa sector in Gabon: challenges and prospects”, this round table aims to reconcile economic development and zero deforestation for local communities.
“This is a project that Brainforest has been implementing for three years already. The project aims to rehabilitate all the old cocoa plantations located in the Haut Ntem department in Minvoul. We have a total of 19 project beneficiaries who produced 4.7 tonnes this year,” explained project manager Ariole Meye.
Several recommendations were made at the end of the work. “The first recommendation is that planters need to structure themselves and organize themselves into cooperatives, in particular. The second is that Gabonese researchers must try to work so that together we have varieties of cocoa which will be the hallmark of Gabon”, concluded Ariole Meye.
