The main European stock markets ended slightly lower on Monday after a calm session while waiting for several major meetings in the week. Eyes are on the first quarter earnings season.

Europe ended lower.In Paris, the CAC 40 lost 0.13% to 6,161.68 points. The British Footsie fell 0.39% and the German Dax gave up 0.13%. The EuroStoxx 50 index fell by 0.43%, the FTSEurofirst 300 by 0.38% and the Stoxx 600 by 0.46%.
In Europe, the week will be animated by publications from LVMH, L'Oréal and Publicis. Corporate earnings releases will begin in earnest on Wednesday in the U.S. with JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo.
According to IBES data from Refinitiv, earnings of U.S. S&P 500 companies are expected to have jumped 25% in the first quarter year-on-year and those of the Stoxx 600 by 47.4%.
Wall Street indexes lost 0.2% to 0.5% but the S&P 500 and Dow Jones remained close to Friday's all-time highs.
