The Council of Ministers of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) has appointed Nigerien Mamadou Diop as Vice-Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO).

Mamadou Diop will be in charge of assisting the Governor of the BCEAO, Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, in a context of post-Covid-19 economic recovery where central banks have a big role to play. He will hold this position as of May 1, 2021, for a 5-year term (2021-2025). In addition, the Board informed that it had amended the relevant provisions of the Statute of the West African Development Bank (BOAD) with a view to the appointment of a second Vice-President.
