The new director has several years of experience in the field of investments especially in emerging markets and especially in Africa. Prior to her appointment at Twitter, the 52-year-old executive worked at the African Development Bank (AfDB), where she represented the United States, and at CIPO, the former name of the U.S. Development Finance Institution (now DFIC) and at MasterCard. where she was Executive Vice-President for Public-Private Partnerships.
"Mimi's extensive experience overseeing emerging market growth in the public and private sectors will be invaluable in advancing Twitter's mission to serve public conversation around the world," said Patrick Pichette, Chairman of the Board of Directors of a U.S. company. However, she is not the first African to sit on Twitter's Board of Directors, she will be preceded by Nigerian Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala appointed in 2018, and who now heads the WTO.
