Benin is significantly increasing its production and exports of organic soybeans. According to the 2020 report of the Commission of the European Union (EU) on the import of organic products 2020 recently published, the country was ranked 6th in the world for exporting organic soybeans to Europe.

During the last agricultural campaign, Benin made a spectacular leap not only in the production of organic soya, but also in its export to Europe. Benin, with 6,300 tons of organic soybeans exported, is the 6th largest exporter to Europe, according to the 2020 report of the Commission of the European Union (EU) on the import of organic products 2020. Compared to the 700 tons exported in 2019 to the same destination, this new data shows a growth of 758.5% recorded by the country in terms of the export of organic soybeans to the Schengen area. In this ranking, Benin is overtaken by Togo, the world's leading exporter of organic soybeans to Europe with 51,000 tonnes; Ukraine with 28,700 tons; India 15,600 tons; Kazakhstan 11,000 tons; Uganda with 8,800 tons. Alongside it are other countries, in this case Burkina Faso and China, which sold 5,200 tonnes and 4,400 tonnes respectively to European countries in 2020. It should be noted that in 2019, Benin occupied the last position. In 2020, his performance was favored on the one hand for having made the effort to beat his own record and on the other hand, helped by the fall of Chinese and Burkinabè productions. The document also reports that in general, the export of organic agro-food products from Benin to the EU increased from 2,081 tonnes to 7,877 tonnes over the same period. The country thus ranks 46th in the world, and 16th in Africa.
