Maurice is hosting the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) delegation from 13 to 15 September. This visit will decide whether Mauritius can be removed from the FATF grey list next October or not.

The FATF will make an on-site visit in Mauritius. The objective of this crucial visit for the financial sector is to confirm that the technical aspects of the action plan have been completed and that there is indeed the institutional capacity and high-level political commitment to implement the reforms in the medium and long term. The members of the delegation will meet with representatives of the ministries and authorities concerned and visit the premises of certain institutions. The decision to send a delegation to Mauritius for an on-site visit was taken recently at the FATF Plenary. The FATF had, on that occasion, noted that Mauritius has substantially completed its action plan and justifies an on-the-spot assessment to verify that the implementation of the reforms in the context of the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism of Mauritius has begun and is continuing, and that political commitment remains in place to support implementation in the future.

The group had found that Mauritius had carried out key reforms by conducting awareness-raising activities to promote understanding of the risks and obligations related to money laundering and terrorist financing. The country has also developed risk-based supervisory plans for the Financial Services Commission. It ensured timely access to basic and beneficial ownership information specified by the competent authorities. In addition, the Government of Mauritius has provided training to law enforcement authorities.
